Back in September 2025, the EU, along with Norway and Switzerland, banned trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO), an ingredient used in some gel nail polish.

Now, the UK is following suit, and from 15 August 2026 brands and manufacturers can no longer place new products containing TPO on the UK market. Existing compliant stock already in the supply chain can continue to be sold through until 14 February 2027, giving the industry time to transition.
