Building upon the pillars of Policy, Growth, ESG, and Talent, the British Beauty Council ensured its influence was far-reaching and impactful last year. This was bolstered by continued collaboration with the Council’s Patrons, Advisory and Executive Board members, Ambassadors, and Committees, who all had a unique part to play in its success.

The year kicked off with the official launch of the Future Talent Programme at 10 Downing Street, which saw the Council reinforce its commitment to channelling new talent into the sector. This work continued throughout the year with the distribution of the Future Talent films to schools and careers facilities , and a ‘Lessons at No10’ event in October 2023.

The British Beauty Council is committed to highlighting the key challenges facing our sector by ensuring open and honest conversations are taking place cross-sector to ignite change. This was epitomised at its Think Tank event in May, where all stakeholders came together to formulate systems for change within industry.

A large part of the Council’s work in 2023 led to the publication of various groundbreaking reports, including the Value of Beauty. Through these reports, we hope our community is armed with the information they need to navigate the ever-evolving industry. This research also informed the Council’s continuous work with Government, and has led to exciting conversations surrounding trade, regulation and more within the walls of Whitehall.

On the topic of trade, The British Beauty Council expanded globally in 2023, with its Trade Hub events demystifying international trade for businesses to navigate global territories. The launch of its ambassador programme also saw the Council welcome international ambassadors such as US ambassador Bobbi Brown, and announce Global Ambassador Kate Moss at British Beauty Week in October.

British Beauty Week 2023 was the biggest to date, reaching over 12.2 million to celebrate the value of the beauty industry in Britain. The event brought together industry stakeholders, creative trailblazers, and Government representatives, in a week that captured the mission of the British Beauty Council.
