Sustainable Swaps: helping to make your beauty routine more planet positive

by | May 5, 2022

A recent study of 23,000 beauty shoppers found that 48% of consumers are looking for more information and clarity about brands’ values and commitments to the environment, in addition to this, 61% struggle to tell if hair and skincare products are ethical from the packaging. Many individuals are seeking routines which are more environmentally-friendly, however they aren’t all clear on where to start.

The Planet Positive Beauty Guide decodes commonly used jargon with straightforward descriptions, and suggests a number of easy swaps individuals can implement into their daily beauty and personal care routines.

From electing for shampoo bars rather than bottles, or purchasing reusable, washable cotton pads instead of using cotton wool, there are lots of small actions individuals can take to be more planet positive; Holland and Barrett in partnership with the British Beauty Council, have launched a nationwide campaign featuring ideas around different sustainable swaps individuals could implement into their routines.

“The purpose of the Sustainable Beauty Coalition is to pave the way to a more planet-friendly beauty industry. A part of this is to offer simple and easy solutions to help consumers lower their environmental impact, and ultimately give their beauty regime a sustainable shake up.”

– Jayn Sterland, Sustainable Beauty Coalition Chair
