With the aim to support greater awareness around sun protection and encourage healthier, everyday habits when it comes to UV exposure, The British Beauty Council is pleased to introduce the UV Safety: Sun Smart Edit, curated in collaboration with Latest in Beauty.
Featuring products from beauty favourites including Ultra Violette, Skincycles, Dr Organic, Hello Sunday, Tan-Luxe and Philip Kingsley, this edit brings together SPF essentials, skin-supporting formulas and glow-enhancing favourites to encourage healthier habits in the sun.
But this collection is about more than beauty products. It represents an important industry movement.
Created as part of the British Beauty Council’s UV Safety Coalition, this first-of-its-kind collaboration brings brands and retailers together with a shared goal: improving access to SPF, strengthening public education around UV protection and supporting meaningful policy progress across the UK.
The need for action has never been clearer. According to Cancer Research UK, 86% of melanoma skin cancer cases are preventable, yet awareness around UV safety remains low. Recent findings from the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Beauty, Hair & Wellbeing’s landmark inquiry A Preventable Crisis: The Case for a National UV Safety Strategy highlighted that 73% of people do not know at which UV index they should begin protecting their skin, while melanoma rates are projected to continue rising over the coming years.
The inquiry, launched to address what it describes as a “preventable public health crisis”, called for significant changes to improve public understanding and accessibility around sun protection. Recommendations included reducing VAT on sunscreen products, introducing stronger regulations around sunbed use, improving UV education in schools and increasing protections for outdoor workers.
At the heart of the report is a simple but powerful message: UV safety is not seasonal. It’s not only for holidays abroad or the hottest days of summer — it’s an everyday health consideration.
