Sustainable Beauty Coalition celebrates one year since its formation

by | Jun 29, 2022

Formed in 2021 as a result of the British Beauty Council’s ground-breaking sustainability report The Courage to Change, the Sustainable Beauty Coalition (SBC) is made up of industry experts, brand owners and industry body representatives from across the beauty sector.

Within the first six months of its formation, the SBC created the Planet Positive Beauty Guide. The Guide provides individuals with the tools to make more informed choices when making purchasing decisions for their personal care routines. From the definitions of ‘Natural’ and ‘Plastic Free’, to providing suggestions for sustainable swaps, the Guide has been created to empower individuals and to cut through the jargon. Following the launch of the Planet Positive Beauty Guide at a side-event of COP26, the SBC published ‘10 ways to be a greener, more sustainable, beauty business’, which provides businesses from across the industry with key routes to be more green.

The SBC is chaired by Jayn Sterland and exists, amongst other reasons, to encourage and strengthen one collective industry voice to accelerate collaboration, knowledge and bolder collective efforts. In the past twelve months, the SBC has: had a presence at the World Retail Congress in Rome to help elevate the work of the Coalition; hosted panel discussions at industry events such as the Natural and Organics Product Europe and British Beauty Week; created an interactive recycling map featuring retailers from across the UK; and launched a nationwide campaign to encourage sustainable swaps.

The work of the SBC continues as the industry collectively seeks to find effective, eco and environmentally-conscious solutions. Download the Planet Positive Beauty Guide, and keep up-to-date with the SBC via their newsletter, click here to sign up.
