Black Beauty Effect – Netflix
A docuseries that explores the history and current reality of black professionals in the beauty industry. Depicting conversations with some of the industry’s most influential figures, the series’ three episodes each centre around the topic of makeup, hair and skincare.
The documentary unpicks cultural standards of beauty, and the progress that is happening.
Untold Stories: Hair On Set – Apple TV
Fola Evans-Akingbola’s documentary, released in October 2023, focuses upon the experiences of black men and women on film and television sets. The 45 minute documentary highlights the lack of knowledge and resources that exists regarding afro/curly hair care in the industry, and explores how the emotional impact upon those involved is much deeper than ever being ‘just’ about hair.
Unknown Beauty: François Nars – Apple TV and Prime Video
Makeup artist, photographer and creative director François Nars is the focal point for this new documentary by Lisa Immordino Vreeland. Giving viewers an insight into the now 65-year old’s creative vision, it charts his career from model’s muse in the 70s, to a 12-lipstick-launch in Barneys, to president of the global Nars we know today.
