Salon businesses consume a lot of energy and therefore have large carbon footprints and electricity bills, as a result of their high usage of electricity in the heating of hot water, lighting and the use of appliances.
Reduce hot water consumption by installing low-flow faucets and spray nozzles in the basins. Also be mindful about the number of towels & capes you use and launder and wash these as a full load on a low temperature. Also, consider replacing your electric hot water heater with a solar water heating system. Ensure all central heating is programmed to low overnight and on days off to minimise unnecessary usage.

Reduce lighting consumption and costs by fitting LED light bulbs and installing motion sensors which turn off the lights when no-one is there. Ensure that all lights are turned off at the end of the day and overnight.
Reduce electrical equipment usage by:

1. Using hair dryers with low wattage and efficient motors
2. Unplugging all appliances when not in use (not just on off mode)
3. Ensuring hair is mostly dry before using the dryer

Finally, make sure that you are using a renewables/green electricity provider such as Octopus, because energy shouldn’t cost the earth.
