Located in Forest Hill, South East London, the Horniman Museum and Gardens is currently host to a number of projects, events and exhibitions encompassing Hair.

‘Hair: Untold Stories’ is an overarching project on display at the Horniman, and showcases unexpected stories about hair, from personal stories in south London salons to tales of global hair trade networks.

Featuring work from artists, filmmakers and curators including:

  • Stacy Bias
  • Jenni Dutton
  • Erwan Fischou
  • Jane Hoodless
  • Keith Jarrett
  • Julian Knxx

The exhibition questions ‘why are we so emotionally attached to our hair?’, as well as exploring the expectations associated with hair – beauty, identity, age, gender and race. It showcases both personal contributions about hair from our south London communities as well as a range of hair artworks made by local and international artists.

As well as Hair: Untold Stories, on display at the Horniman Museum is Cult Hair, a photography series from INFRINGE. ‘Cult Hair’ highlights “the power and beauty of people living out their true form. Ordinary people with extraordinary hair”.

Hair: Untold Stories is open until 19th June 2022 (except Wednesdays); find out more here.

Cult Hair is open until 22nd August 2022 (except Wednesdays); find out more here.
