Beauty Banks helps more than 400 kids ‘Stay Fresh’ this Summer

by | Aug 30, 2024

Hygiene poverty is a growing crisis in the UK, affecting millions who struggle to afford even the most basic toiletries. Here’s how Beauty Banks is helping…

This year, the demand for essential products has surged by 141% with more people affected by poverty due to the cost of living crisis

We all know how tricky the holidays can be when it comes to saving, spending and ensuring kids have fun. So, Beauty Banks has been working tirelessly to ensure every child has access to the hygiene items they need to feel clean, confident, and healthy when they should be enjoying the holidays.

Beauty Banks has already distributed 420 ‘Stay Fresh’ bags to children across the UK this July and August. Containing hygiene essentials like body wash, sanitary pads, SPF and toothbrushes, the kits contain enough to keep kids clean for their whole time off.

Jo Jones, founder of Beauty Banks and British Beauty Council Advisory Board member says: ‘The Stay Fresh Appeal exists to support children in low-income families during the long school summer holidays so they do not have to live with the added burden of poor hygiene.’

The organisation isn’t stopping at 420 bags and hope to provide many more as students return to school.

On top of this, in June and July alone, Beauty Banks sent bulk deliveries of essential hygiene items to 300 charities, including food banks, homeless shelters, and schools across the UK. This represents an 81% increase from the same period in 2023, driven solely by overwhelming need.

Founded in January 2019 by friends Sali Hughes and Jo Jones, Beauty Banks began as a social movement driven by the belief that being clean is a human right, essential to health and wellbeing.

Motivated by the issue of hygiene poverty, they leveraged their connections in the beauty industry to create a simple yet powerful model: redistribute resources from those who have them to those who don’t.

Knowing that August is the most challenging month due to peak school holidays, Beauty Banks has supported every charity and school that has asked for help. But to meet growing demands, they need to raise more money – that’s where you come in.

The Goal: £20k for the Stay Fresh Appeal

The Stay Fresh appeal was created to provide school-age children throughout the UK with enough hygiene products to sustain them during the school holidays and the back-to-school period. Beauty Banks has set a target of £20k, and so far, donations have reached £5,844.

How Brands Can Help:

  • A donation of £100 will enable Beauty Banks to support ten children with STAY FRESH WELLBEING Packs, which provide enough hygiene items for up to eight weeks.
  • A donation of £200 will enable them to support 20 children.

To express appreciation for donations, Beauty Banks will: post a thank you on their Instagram Stories, list the brand/company on their website homepage as a donor and send a branded thank you post for social media.
