The British Beauty Council is dedicated to creating an industry that is accessible to all – from careers to product design. It is currently working to the below focuses following the recommendations from its report ‘A Beauty Industry That Looks Like You’.

Career Progression

Equitable progression is of significant importance – with more diverse voices reaching higher positions comes a trickle down of increased equity in the workforce and representation externally.

Neurodivergence

We must review how the beauty industry currently meets the needs of its neurodivergent workforce including education, recruitment, training and workplace policies and culture.

Disability and Visible Differences

To ensure disabled people enter beauty’s workforce, we must address significant barriers to entry including: representation, complex access and accessibility.

Hair Equity

Beauty services should be accessible to all. The Council is working to ensure that hair services cater to all hair types via increased mandatory training and education in salons, film & television and more.

The British Beauty Council’s report, ‘A Beauty Industry That Looks Like You’, uncovers the true makeup of the beauty industry. The initial findings are the analysis of results from the Beauty Census which was was completed by 4,000 people in 2024.
