From building a beauty brand, to becoming a hair, beauty or wellbeing practitioner, innovating a new product, or marketing the next beauty ‘must have’, the Council shines a light on the diverse range of careers available, creating a resilient industry and boosting future growth.

David Macdonald
Vice President of Communications, Walgreens Boots Alliance
David Macdonald is Vice President of Communications at Walgreens Boots Alliance and has lived worked internationally, in the UK, the US, France and Spain. He led communications for No7 Beauty Company from its creation to the launch of its groundbreaking Future Renew range, establishing the Creator Collective influencer programme in partnership with British Beauty Council.
Previously, David was Director of Philanthropy at L’Oréal in Paris, where he led the global L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme, as well as international communications of the company’s designer brands fragrances.

Our ‘Career Insights’ podcast series features a roster of some of the UK’s best talent in beauty, hair and product development. The series is hosted by Elizabeth Barnett-Lawton.

Future Talent Programme
The British Beauty Council is dedicated to ensuring clear and diverse beauty career pathways are promoted to young people. Through this work it aims to maintain a continuous flow of new talent into the sector which will maintain the UK beauty industry’s global reputation at the cutting edge of innovation.
In order to do so, The British Beauty Council and STEM Learning and Careers and Enterprise are collaborating to develop the first dedicated beauty-related resource for secondary schools, showcasing and demonstrating the enriching careers across the beauty and STEM sector. The films below highlight opportunities in cosmetic science, fragrance, sustainability and technology.
The Beauty in Science
The beauty industry has been revolutionised by scientific innovation. The British Beauty Council and No7 Beauty Company, produced this film to show how all the sciences come together to create a skincare product.
It took about 50 people three years to bring No7 Laboratory Line Reducing Skincare Serum to market.
Britain’s Next Makeup Artist
Ding Dong! Glow Up has brought fresh talent to the eyes and hearts of millions, as well as cementing Val Garland and Dominic Skinner as some of the best-loved MUAs the country has to offer.
