The British Beauty Council's annual Value of Beauty report highlights the economic impact of the personal care industry as a major contributor to the UK economy. In 2025, the sector generated £28.3 billion and contributed £8.8 billion in tax revenues. Supporting more than 595,000 jobs, the sector spans hairdressing, beauty, wellness, aesthetics, manufacturing, retail and marketing, while remaining the largest business category on UK high streets.

In the beauty industry, misinformation often arises from misunderstandings about ingredient safety, product usage, claims, regulation, or scientific studies. This report looks at how the beauty industry can collectively tackle online skincare misinformation.

Overview: The Value of Beauty, an annual report compiled by Oxford Economics and commissioned by the British Beauty Council, shows the economic impact of the personal care industry.

In 2025, the British Beauty Council continued to strengthen its role as the authoritative voice of the UK beauty industry. This report shows how, at a time of economic uncertainty and political transition, our influence in enabling growth, advocacy, and propelling beauty’s voice has never been more important.

A report produced by Pragmatix Advisory, commissioned by the British Beauty Council, that assesses the likely impact of minimum wage and employment tax related measures, announced in the Autumn 2024 Budget on the beauty industry.

As a result of the varying challenges facing salons, apprenticeships and in order to future proof the hairdressing community, the British Beauty Council commissioned Thinks Insight & Strategy, a global insights consultancy, to develop a report to find recommendations that could solve some of the integral & systemic challenges.

The intent of ‘A Beauty Industry That Looks Like You’ arose from the many conversations and insights gathered via the British Beauty Council’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee. Also prompted by the desire to inspire and activate those working in the ‘hidden corners’ of our multi-faceted communities across the UK, whilst also highlighting the personal experiences of professionals within the field.
