Glow Up Series 5 winner announced at live industry-studded final

by | Jun 21, 2023

Last night, the winner of BBC Three’s Glow Up was announced after eight weeks of cutting-edge creativity and rigorous judging – ding dong!

The search to find Britain’s next makeup star is over for another year. Saphron, a 23-year-old pizza delivery driver and freelance MUA from Essex was crowned the winner of Glow Up series five, after live judging at Harvey Nichols in London.

With an ambition to work in special effects for movies, Saphron’s final assignment rang true to her style throughout the series – glorious, gory, and fantastical.

The finalists were put to the test at their final assignment, a live masterclass at Harvey Nichols in front of industry heavyweights. With an audience including celebrity makeup artist Hrush Achemyan, Lizzie Yianni-Georgiou, a Marvel film and TV hair and makeup designer, Millie Kendall O.B.E. – and the series judges Dominic Skinner and Val Garland – the final brief pushed contestants to the limit.

Axel and Roo, the runners-up in this series, both created stand-out looks that wowed the crowd, whilst answering questions from onlookers and sharing their top tips. However, it was Saphron’s skill that led her to gold, with a look that traversed the boundaries of traditional contouring to question today’s beauty standards.

At the live final, speaking exclusively to the British Beauty Council, Roo said: ‘I have had such an amazing time doing the show, it’s given me so many incredible opportunities, and I have learnt so much. I’m so pleased that I got all the way and that I was able to experience everything.

‘I am so pleased Saphron won, she deserves it and has been working so hard for so many years.’

On top of winning the accolade of Britain’s next makeup star, Saphron will go on to assist some of the world’s top makeup artists, kick-starting her career as a leading creative in the industry.
