Many types of wipes are made from plastic materials, soaked in harsh chemicals (often containing microplastic ingredients) and packaged in a plastic pouch. Designed to be disposed of once used, wipes are unsustainable, wasteful and promote a throw-away culture.
There are particular occasions when wipes are extremely helpful; for hygiene reasons in salons, or for use while travelling, for example. Instead of using single-use plastic wipes, choose reusable face clothes made from organic cotton or bamboo whenever possible. These can be washed and reused. If a single-use wipe must be used, opt for plastic-free and biodegradable options made from sustainably sourced materials (i.e. bamboo), and only use when absolutely necessary.
