THE SUSTAINABLE REVOLUTION: The fourth Solutions Summit proves innovation is here to stay

by | Nov 17, 2025

Last month, the British Beauty Council devised the fourth Packaging Solutions Summit – a landmark moment proving, decisively, that planet-positive packaging is no longer a future promise, but a market reality.

Held as part of British Beauty Week and supported by Plastic Free, Made Thought, and Pack Lion, the Summit was a masterclass in innovation. We heard from key thought leaders and showcased a dynamic array of solutionists and innovators with world-first, ready-to-use sustainable alternatives for packaging across the supply chain.

These revolutionary solutions directly tackle the industry’s greatest packaging issues. Exhibitors showcased materials that provide immediate, viable substitutes to the current status quo in packaging. The beauty industry generates 120billion units of packaging every year that are predominately ending up in landfill or incinerated across the globe. The message was clear: brands now have access to better, more scalable, and more affordable sustainable solutions than ever before. The innovation is here, and it’s available right now. The event highlighted how adopting these sustainable solutions isn’t just about ethics, it’s about financial survival and consumer relevance. The British Beauty Council’s Courage to Change report found that 88% of companies adhering to social or environmental standards perform better. Research from Circana during the event also confirmed that this is non-negotiable for the next generation of consumers, with Kelly Ackroyd, Senior Account Manager, sharing her insights.

Beauty brands and businesses are set to face a wave of increased regulation when it comes to packaging. From Extended Producer Responsibility legislation to Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation, Victoria Brownlie MBE, Chief of Policy & Sustainability sent a rally cry to industry at the event: ‘Do we wait for the next regulation to catch us or do we become the architects of the future, using the technology, mandate and deadlines to enact radical, beautiful and profitable innovation without compromise?’ The answer from industry representatives in attendance was clear – that time for action and implementation is now.
