Through education, inclusivity, and industry collaboration, the Council endeavours to promote diverse career pathways, professional development, and accessibility in the beauty industry, ensuring a skilled and empowered workforce.

The Council shines a light on the diverse range of careers available in the sector through the creation of school-ready resources, digital work experience and work place safaris for the next generation of industry professionals.

David Macdonald

Vice president of Sustainability and HR Business Planning, Walgreens Boots Alliance

 

David Macdonald is currently Vice President of  Sustainability and HR Business Planning at Walgreens Boots Alliance and has lived worked internationally, in the UK, the US, France and Spain. He led communications for No7 Beauty Company from its creation to the launch of its groundbreaking Future Renew range, establishing the Creator Collective influencer programme in partnership with British Beauty Council.

Previously, David was Director of Philanthropy at L’Oréal in Paris, where he led the global L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme, as well as international communications of the company’s designer brands fragrances, and prior to that, Head of Corporate Communications in London.

 

Future Talent Programme

The British Beauty Council is dedicated to ensuring clear and diverse beauty career pathways are promoted to young people. Through this work it aims to maintain a continuous flow of new talent into the sector which will maintain the UK beauty industry’s global reputation at the cutting edge of innovation.

In order to do so, the British Beauty Council works with various stakeholders to share a range of documentary-style films showcasing and demonstrating the enriching careers across the beauty and STEM sector. 

The organisation also began collaborating with Speakers for Schools to offer online workshop sessions and workplace safaris.

Career Insights podcast

Our ‘Career Insights’ podcast series features a roster of some of the UK’s best talent in beauty, hair and product development. The series is hosted by Elizabeth Barnett-Lawton.

Elizabeth says, “I’ll be finding out how a host of the current beauty industry leaders have built their brands and exploring what helped them to succeed.” 

Guests include: Jo Malone, Sam McKnight, Sam Farmer, Syd Hayes,  Charlotte Mensah and many more well-known make-up artists, hair stylists, influencers, scientists and brand owners.
