2025 beauty trends: What will beauty lovers look for in the New Year?

by | Dec 22, 2024

We’ve compiled the top beauty trends from across the industry so that you don’t have to…

From coffee-inspired cosmetics to smart fragrances, beauty trends move as quickly as you can say the word ‘skincare’. To help you stay ahead of the curve, here’s a list of the key consumer sentiments you need to be aware of over the next 12 months.

Mocha Mousse and Cocoa Powder will lead the way

With Pantone naming ‘Mocha Mousse’ its colour of the year hot off of the heels of WGSN predicting Cocoa Powder to be a key colour for beauty this British Beauty Week, it’s clear that rich hues of brown will set the agenda in the New Year.

With ‘Latte makeup’ taking socials by storm in 2023, next year’s iterations will be a ‘dimensional sophisticated tone (with) an age-agnostic story that will appeal to mature generations and can be utilised as a new black for indie grunge looks in smudged matte applications for younger generations,’ according to WGSN.

Scents need to stimulate the mind

2024 saw fragrance brands dip their toe into science-driven scents to soothe anxiety, help sleep and nurture focus – remember Charlotte Tilbury’s Fragrance Collection of Emotions?

In 2025, this trend will reach new heights with people expecting their spritzes to multi-task. According to The Future Laboratory’s ‘Future Forecast 2025’, ‘One brand leading this evolution is UK-based Vyrao, whose latest fragrance, Mamajuju, aims to counteract stress from excessive screen time. The scent… draws on nature-inspired themes to ground and uplift its wearers.’

90s ‘dirty blonde’ will be the top request in salons

Say good bye to the Sabrina Carpenter-esque, styled-to-the-nines looks of 2024 – grunge blondes are back, with people wanting to look like their tresses are low maintenance.

In a recent article, Hannah Coates at Vogue says: ‘Luckily, dirty blonde works on all skin tones and conveys a lived-in and effortless “cool girl mood”… modern examples of the trend include Kendall Jenner’s recent blonde, Gabbriette and Rihanna in the Dior J’Adore campaign.’

We all know though, this effortless look actually owes itself to a lot of effort, from initial bleach to the perfect tone – it’s a tricky one to perfect.

Skincare’s set to go waterless – really this time

Touts have had their money on waterless skincare for sometime now, but it seems that 2025 will be the year that the category will really take off. According to Beauty Pie’s ‘Trends Report 2025’, ‘Google searches have increased by over 806% in the past six months by people searching for waterless skincare products, suggesting we *all* need to get ready for the waterless movement heading our way.’

These products make waxes, botanical oils and butters the main ingredient, leaving water behind – so, you’re not leaving nourishment behind but reducing your impact on the planet at the same time.
