Beauty entrepreneur Sharmadean Reid MBE – who founded WAH Nails and Beautystack and sits on British Beauty Council advisory board – has spoken to Vogue Beauty about the growing importance of the salon in the digital world.
She observes how much of an oasis it has become for us – and not just as a place away from the crowd, but a comfort zone too.
“The salon is a sanctuary, a saviour and a safe place”, she says. “As more and more of the world’s population move to cities, the stress of a fast-paced life, the loneliness of being away from your family unit, and the sheer lack of physical touch from transient relationships can wear us down”.
And she believes that the human contact we get during good treatments, alongside the cocooned environment of the salon, will mean that this side of our business won’t just not be disrupted by the growth of AI, but actually thrive.
