British supplement brand receives the UK’s first patent for microbiome supplement, solidifying its role in promoting the gut-skin axis

by | Feb 7, 2024

Advanced Nutrition Programme, leading oral skincare supplements brand, has been awarded an exclusive UK patent for its Skin Clear Biome reinforcing Britain’s leading role in the sector

The product, which is designed to enhance the health of the microbiome, and its new patent reinforces the UK’s role in innovation and efficacious products. It is now the one of only four patented ‘microbiome’ products on the UK’s IPO Register, enhancing the brand’s influence on the sector.

‘This establishes the Advanced Nutrition Programme as leaders in promoting the ‘gut care is skin care’ concept to the beauty industry and clients who are seeking better and more longer lasting results for their skin health,’ starts Lorraine Perretta, Head of Nutrition at the brand, after having worked on the product and patent for close to five years.

Perretta continues: ‘In 2019, we launched our first microbiome product reflecting the emerging understanding of the gut-skin axis… At a time of rising stress levels and their negative impact on skin, Skin Clear Biome provides the beauty industry with an innovative tool to support the neuroglow consumer trend.’

And a beauty trend, it is. Over the last 12 months, ‘gut health supplements’ and ‘gut health for skin’ are garnering breakout search traffic. And, with more and more customers questioning the effectiveness of the increasingly saturated market, the patent couldn’t come at a better time.

The brand has been granted the patent following extensive research beyond initial product formulation. ‘The research supporting this patent showcases the alignment of nutrition science and the beauty industry and further broadens the conversation for aestheticians in delivering the ‘healthification’ of confident beauty,’ said Perretta.

The supplement is currently being marketed in more than 18 countries, highlighting the importance of the patent for Britain’s global beauty trade. Researchers are also committed to sharing their knowledge with everyone who accesses the product, reinforcing their point by saying: ‘Advanced Nutrition Programme will continue to partner with the beauty industry in innovating personalised, results driven, smart skin supplement systems for skin health.’

It doesn’t stop at education for the brand, which is dedicated to ensuring its practices are created with the planet in mind. On top of achieving ‘100% environmentally friendly’ packaging in 2017, the brand’s Founder David Alpert plays an important role in promoting sustainable practices through his role on the Sustainable Beauty Coalition.
