Feel Better Month: Look Good Feel Better

by | Jun 10, 2021

For 27 years Look Good Feel Better(LGFB) has been providing their unique support to people living with cancer and we can all help them to do so much more.  Sadly most of us will know someone affected by cancer but we can all help LGFB put a smile back on their faces.

About Look Good Feel Better

British Beauty Council Charity Affiliate, Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) are a national charity who help boost the physical and emotional wellbeing of people living with cancer through free online and (post Covid) face to face workshops, printed materials and tutorials.

During the pandemic, LGFB were severely impacted, in March 2020 their confidence boosting workshops for cancer patients in 141 venues across the UK and in 26 other countries worldwide stopped overnight.Between March 2020 and September 2020, 3 million fewer cancer screenings were performed, in comparison with the same period in 2019. On top of this, 46,000 fewer people started treatment for cancer between April 2020 and February 2021, due to COVID.  The need for Look Good Feel Better’s services has never been greater.

Two weeks after the first lockdown the charity had trialled and launched online support, bringing 10-15 people together via Zoom. Workshops are offered to women, men and young adults and during the pandemic people have welcomed the opportunity to meet others, feel less isolated and alone, chat and ask questions and learn new skills. Originally Look Good Feel Better supported women living with cancer with skincare and make-up support and men with shaving, skincare, suncare and scarring but now their offering has expanded.  Workshops have been created to cover hair loss/wigs/head coverings; nail care; ‘chair’ yoga and body confidence/styling.
