As part of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, we have collaborated with our affiliate, Skin Cancer Charity, Skcin and our patron, Professional-grade skincare brand, Dermalogica to discuss their recent partnership, the importance of sun protection, skin health and early skin cancer detection.
Skcin – is the UK’s only skin cancer charity totally dedicated to education and awareness – it was established in 2006 and was born out of the loss of loved one to melanoma. The charity focuses on the prevention and early detection as 90% of skin cancers are preventable. They also campaign for cultural and educational change in this area. The charity are pioneers in educational intervention and has developed and run for the past 8 years five national educational interventions accreditation schemes, that work with at risk and influential groups.
The hair and Beauty industry and wider sectors have vital role to play with skin surveillance with their clients, as they see their clients regularly and parts of their body they cannot see themselves. The industry has a powerful role to play in advocating skin surveillance and helping the charity in their fight to combat the rising skin cancer cases in the UK which have risen more than 56% in the last decade.
