Founded by Yolanda Cooper of WE ARE PARADOXX\, Plastic Free Beauty Day is a day dedicated to challenging the use of plastic packaging in the beauty products we buy. It is a call to take action against the overdependence on plastic by\nbeauty brands. \nThis year sees a big education drive in partnership with the British Beauty Council and Ocean Generation to inspire and inform retailers\, brands\, consumers and media through an engaging education-led webinar with industry experts and leaders\, who have the knowledge and ability to inspire\, create awareness and instigate real industry change. \nA week ahead of Plastic Free Beauty Day\, on Friday 11th June at 11.30am\, a 30 minute webinar with 10 minute live Q&A session will be hosted by Yolanda Cooper\, alongside Millie Kendall\, CEO of the British Beauty Council\, Daisy Kendrick – leading sustainability expert from Ocean Generation and Ben Proctor\, Director of On Repeat – an innovative packaging solution launching this June. All will be available for interview prior to and following the webinar. \nSign up for the webinar now – \nThe webinar will cover topics including;\n• Why is it important that the beauty industry specifically should play an active role in the world’s global sustainability efforts?\n• Is being “green” a USP or is it becoming a new-normal baseline standard?\n• Green-washing in the beauty industry – what brands should consumers trust and how do they spot pretenders?\n• Tangible advice for those wanting to become more environmentally conscious. \n  \nWhy now? \nConsumers are demanding a change from brands;\n• 73% of UK consumers want to live more sustainably.\n• 69% of consumers want to reduce their plastic consumption – the number 1 sustainability priority. \nCredit: The Courage to Change \n  \nOur ecosystem can’t sustain our current behaviours around plastics;\n• Only 5% of the world’s plastics are recycled effectively – 40% end up on landfill and a third in fragile ecosystems such as the ocean.\n• 90% of us recycle regularly in the kitchen but only 52% recycle from our bathroom.\n• Recycling aluminum saves 95% of energy required to make it in the first place.\n• Only 9% of all plastic ever made has actually been recycled! In comparison 75% of aluminium is still in use today. \nCredit: The Courage to Change \nStatistics taken from the British Beauty Council ‘Courage to Change’ Report \n  \nAbout the panellists \nYolanda Cooper\, Founder of Plastic Free Beauty Day and WE ARE PARADOXX\nYolanda Cooper is a leader in sustainable beauty and passionate about ethical sourcing\, clean formulations and sustainable packaging. SUMMARY:Back to Work Bootcamp
DESCRIPTION:The Beauty Backed Trust are running a Back to Work Bootcamp\, which will take place on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th March.\n \nThe Beauty Backed fundraising initiative began in 2020 to support the independent businesses and entrepreneurs within the beauty industry\, who were directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. After a successful launch\, which saw over £600\,000 raised for distribution by the Hair & Beauty Charity\, Beauty Backed has since evolved into a Trust which aims to assist everyone and anyone who works in the beauty industry. With beauty contributing over £28 billion to the British economy each year\, the Beauty Backed Founder\, Caroline Hirons\, and The Trustees passionately advocate that beauty is a valuable industry. SUMMARY:Career Insights a podcast series brought to you by British Beauty Council
DESCRIPTION:The negative impact of the pandemic on students and those aspiring to a career in the beauty industry has been huge. Many in the industry have been furloughed or laid off\, while those studying for a career in the beauty industry have had to continue their studies online. Universities and colleges across the UK are planning to deliver a virtual curriculum\, with little if any face-to-face contact. This will make motivation more challenging\, particularly with less exposure to industry guest lecturers\, who normally provide inspiration to students during their studies. \nIn response to these issues\, the British Beauty Council is launching a podcast series hosted by our President of Pillar\, Education\, Elizabeth Barnett-Lawton\, featuring interviews with some of the biggest names in the hair and beauty industry to discover how they have got to where they are today. From key lessons learnt along the way\, to what advice they would give their younger selves\, this podcast series aims to educate and motivate those starting out in the industry or wanting a career change. \nMake sure you are signed up as a or patron to access this series.

SUMMARY:China Britain Beauty Festival
DESCRIPTION:Exporting to China has always been challenging for British beauty brands because of the need for animal testing. However\, on 3 January 2020\, the China State Council announced the approval of revised cosmetics regulations\, outlining requirements for animal testing exemption. Once the new regulations begin on 1 May 2021\, it will be possible for British brands with ethical considerations within their core values to access China’s huge market and consumer base\, which is expected to be worth around £50Bn by the end of this year. \nThe conditions for exemption remain a challenge\, and the British Government is close to a solution for British brands to comply with China’s new safety requirements. The Department for International Trade (DIT) is hosting a beauty festival to walk through these changes and the wider opportunities in China\, starting with a webinar series and leading up to a British Pavilion at the China Beauty Expo (CBE)\, Shanghai. \nOpen to all\, the webinar series will feature seven targeted sessions delivered by industry experts starting from 2 March 2021\, covering all key aspects of China beauty from navigating China’s regulatory changes and how to comply with new regulations to the market segment’s landscape and consumer trends. \nFor more information please see below.  You can also reach out to us at:DITChinaRetail@fco.gov.uk with any questions. \nREGISTER NOW \nFULL AGENDA  \n\n\n\n02/03/2021\n\n\n14:00 – 15:00\nSession 1: The UK’s Proposal of Good Manufacturing Practice Certification for Brands Exporting to China without the need for animal testing.\n\n\n\n\n\n04/03/2021\n\n\n14:00 – 15:00\nSession 2: The China UK-EU Initiative on Cosmetics Safety Assessment\n\n\n\n\n\n09/03/2021\n\n\n09:00 – 10:00\nSession 3: Understanding China\, your consumers and what beauty means to them\n\n\n\n\n\n11/03/2021\n\n\n09:00 – 10:00\nSession 4: The Beauty Landscape in China\n\n\n\n\n\n16/03/2021\n\n\n09:00 – 10:00\nSession 5: The Skincare Landscape in China\n\n\n\n\n\n18/03/2021\n\n\n09:00 – 10:00\nSession 6: The New Digital Playbook for China’s Beauty Market\n\n\n\n\n\n23/03/2021\n\n\n09:00 – 10:30\nSession 7: Get to know China Operations and China Beauty Expo\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:INSTA LIVE - Wellbeing Workshop: The importance of men's mental health & wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday 4th February at 6pm for an Instagram Live with Mental Health Campaigner Ben West\, and Founder of Lions Barber Collective Tom Chapman.\n \nDate: Thursday 4th February \nTime: 18:00 \nPlace: Instagram Live (@britishbeautycouncil) \n  \nDo you think barbers play an important role in improving people’s self confidence and empowering men? \n  \nWho is Ben West?  \n  \nAt just 20 years old Ben has already won a Pride of Britain Award\, The Diana Award and the Mental Health Hero Award as part of the The Sun Who Cares initiative. He has also spoken on numerous national and local news outlets contributing to the national conversation around mental health awareness. \n  \nThe sudden and unexpected loss of his brother to suicide two years ago propelled Ben to take positive action from this tragedy and concentrate his pain into a drive to campaigning around mental health awareness\, suicide prevention and fundamentally changing how we approach mental health\, especially in schools and the education system. \n  \nHis previous petition\, calling for mandatory training in mental health first aid for all educators\, garnered over 300\,000 signatures and his most recent petition\, to hold universities to account over mental health standards\, is quickly gathering momentum. \n  \nWho is Tom Chapman?  \n  \nAdvisory Board Member Tom Chapman is an award winning hairdresser turned documentary maker\, author\, public speaker\, international educator\, brand developer\, husband and father. \n  \nTom started his career with Toni & Guy in 2002 as a hairdresser\, and taught himself barbering because of his love for mens hair and alternative hair styles. He opened Tom Chapman Hair Design in Torquay\, UK in 2011 and began educating 2 years later. \n  \nIn September 2015 Tom founded The Lions Barber Collective\, which started as a group of international barbers raising awareness for suicide prevention. It has since developed to become much more and now campaigns for the awareness of mental wellbeing and suicide prevention as well\, believing that the barbershop is a great\, safe place for men to talk\, and through BarberTalk he hopes to train hair professionals across the globe to Recognise\, Ask\, Listen and Help those in their chairs. \n  \nWhat will the Wellbeing Workshop cover?  \n  \nBen and Tom will be having an open and honest discussion about the role hair and beauty professionals play in the health and wellbeing of their clients. The discussion will cover the importance of talking as well as the work of the Lions Barber Collective. \n  \nJoin us this Time To Talk Day\, 4th February\, for a compelling Instagram Live! \n  \nFollow us on Instagram here.
