Edeline Lee: Session hairstylist behind SS25 show goes behind the scenes

by | Sep 22, 2024

Edeline Lee presented her first LFW show at this year’s SS25 shows. Here Philipp Haug, hairstylist behind the look takes us behind the scenes…

Nurturing young talent, going against the grain, and paving the way future generations have always been key to London Fashion Week since its inception in 1984. This year was no different as the city saw cutting edge design, cult labels, and that SS Daley moment sweep the news.

One of the stand-out moments was Central Saint Martins graduate Edeline Lee’s show, where Lady Victoria Starmer, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s wife, sat on the front row in one of the designer’s polka-dot designs, sporting oversized sunglasses.

Strong, sleek silhouettes were married with pops of playful patterns and coloured fabrics on models who circulated under Millbank Tower. The brand’s first LFW catwalk show was consolidated by an award winning beauty team, creating sleek, elevated looks that let the looks run.

Makeup was keyed by Kim Brown, nails were mastered by Sammy Mac, whilst Philipp Haug of Haug London Haus was the hairstylist to bring Lee’s visions to life. Here, he shares his experiences and most memorable moments from the day.

How did it feel when you were asked to do the hair for this year’s Edeline Lee show?

‘It was a huge compliment. We worked closely with Edeline, her team, and Katie (Felstead) – the lead stylist – from the beginning. There has been constant communication throughout the creative process. We felt like one big group of family and friends.’

What was the story you wanted to tell with the hair for the show?

‘All of our work was clearly led by the clothes. Strength was key throughout the collection and the hair had to match. We decided to do it a bit differently from our previous work and kept the hair simple and away from the face with a strong parting using gel products. But we also didn’t want it to have too much of an editorial feel – we still wanted Edeline’s personality to shine through. So, we decided to give a more modern, lived-in feel with undone waves at the back as well.’

What are your highlights of the day?

‘My colleague [Julian Marques] did Lady Victoria Starmer’s hair, which was really cool for us to be a part of. She sat in the front row and the day after it was all over the press and on so many front pages. It was a very exciting opportunity, and we were all so happy to be a part of it.’

How was it backstage?

‘It was crazy. We didn’t have a lot of time as there was a quick turnaround of models and changing. We were working on around 20 models so it was a lot to do but it was so much fun. It was also Edeline’s first year doing a children’s wear range too, so that added a different element to the experience.’

How does the brand resonate with you as a hairdresser?

‘The clientele that Edeline attracts is what I would call the classic ‘West End’ type that we also attract to our salons. They’re on-the-go women with busy lives, so they are often the type to come in for a quick blow dry and get moving again. Overall, her clientele could easily become clients of ours, so there’s still a clear link between what Edeline creates and what we do.’
