British Beauty Week 2024: Dates and themes announced

by | Mar 28, 2024

Earlier this week, the British Beauty Council unveiled its theme for British Beauty Week – ‘A Beauty Industry That Looks Like You’. The celebration will be the culmination of a six month strategy to uncover the hidden corners of the beauty industry

The British Beauty Council aims to look under the skin of the industry this year with a campaign to find out what beauty really means to its workers and consumers.

Underpinned by the biggest research project in its history – The Beauty Census – the organisation hopes to shift the perception of the sector and lead to important changes to help it thrive.

More than half a million workers in the industry from giants like L’Oreal to mobile hairdressers, will have the opportunity to have their say to hold a mirror up to the £24.5Bn a year industry.

Consumers will also be questioned on how they perceive the industry and the importance of the service it provides.

It is hoped the findings will lead to a perception shift in how the trade is seen by the public – and help the council respond to the concerns of those who work in it.

Millie Kendall, CEO, said the organisation aims that by holding a mirror up to the beauty industry – both inside and outside – it can be a driving force for change.

‘We want to hear from everyone from those working in the head office to shop floor assistants, local salons, at-home hairdressers and warehouse workers,’ she said.

‘Beauty really does ‘look like you’ and we need to know what you think so we can address the problems, maximise the opportunities and make the industry better for those who work in it and its customers.

‘It’s time for the industry to unite in confronting its challenges head-on, so we can reveal its true value to all.’

The focus this year will be on:

  • A huge research project establishing what beauty means to the public and industry workers
  • How beauty touches everyone – from a 90-year-old in a residential home to a burly builder to a film star
  • The life enhancing properties of the beauty industry and how it contributes to the nation’s mental health
  • How to persuade young people that the industry offers amazing opportunities and job satisfaction
  • How it is one of the major engines for the economy and especially social mobility, with a unique footprint that is bigger in deprived areas than their affluent neighbours

British Beauty Week 2024 will take place from 23-27 October. With a reach of over 12.2 million, 2023’s British Beauty Week celebration was record-breaking.

Now, the British Beauty Council is back with the sixth iteration of its renowned beauty celebration and is encouraging brands to get involved. The Council welcomes all beauty brands and businesses to get involved.
